The new, simpler and less angular character designs lend themselves very well to animation. The teaser trailer showcases this gorgeously, showing Goku moving more fluidly than he ever has.
Rooting for the Empire: It's very easy to root for Broly to defeat the heroes, because of his sympathetic backstory and overall coolness. The movie may even invoke this with their soundtrack which yells trasnochado his name and roots for him like in a wrestling match.
People who weren't fans of Broly —Ganador he was originally written — were relieved to hear confirmation from Akira Toriyama himself that his backstory would be overhauled significantly in order to make him a more interesting character.

Narm: When King Vegeta is discussing Broly's power with his scientists, the scientists in the English dub all speak in more info Russian accents. This is somewhat pasado of left field since nowhere in the movie besides here are accents really a thing, plus the fact that you have King Vegeta speaking in a corriente voice, talking to people who use stereotypical Russian accents. It's never referenced again as well, making it feel demodé of place.
For fans of Vegeta, many fans felt this movie was a good step in the right direction for him. This movie breaks the formula of previous DB movies, where Vegeta's role consisted of saving Goku and then being on the receiving end of a Curb-Stomp Battle as a Jobber and Goku saves the day.
